A Christmas Message from Peter

Christmas-Nativity-Facebook-Banners-21

I watched the movie Love Actually about a month ago. At the start of the movie, the narrator, Hugh Grant, says that every time he thinks that there is no love in the world he just goes to the arrival gates at Heathrow Airport and watches people get greeted by loved ones as they returned from overseas. The footage during the narration is of people hugging, kissing, crying and generally being overwhelmed with joy as they reunite after a time apart.

I returned from PNG recently through Brisbane Airport and just for a few minutes, I stood and watched people being greeted as they were processed through customs and were sent through the Exit Gate into the arms of waiting loved ones. I smiled as I thought of the movie Love Actually.

Each Morning I write a Morning News Wrap. I report to those who care to read it the bad stuff that is happening in the world. Sometimes there is good stuff but mostly death and injury and politicians.

Sometimes I finish off the wrap by saying Go and make the world a better place. You have the power within you.

And we do have this power. It’s immense. The power to show kindness, the power to encourage, the power to hug, the power to care, the power to smile, the power to acknowledge, the power to touch, the power to give, the power to pray. At times, and I will be first to throw myself under a bus here, we get too busy to show this power. We get too busy trying to change the world to actually change the world with the power that is already within our grasp.

At Christmas time we remember that Jesus came into the world that according to Ephesians was so that ‘God could show kindness to mankind’…..And then at the end of Jesus’ life he encouraged humanity to go into all the world and do as He did.

In 2016, let’s not lament the evil and badness in the world, but instead be a force for goodness, love and kindness as we go about our daily routine. We can change the world, one person at a time.

On behalf of Melanie, Lakeisha and Laura, I wish you and your family an amazing Christmas filled with love and laughter and a year to follow that is one of your best years yet. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life, whether that be personally or through social media.

Merry Christmas
